Mommy Week - Being a Working Mom

As we pause in our home renos and decorating, I'm dedicating this week my posts are all things "Mom" related with a few awesome giveaways mixed in. Next week I'll resume my neurotic decorating sprees! See explanation here

I'm glad I'm doing this "Mommy Week" as I'm able to talk about some things that may be otherwise random, if not under this heading of a Mom week. I thought I'd touch on my business for this post. It may be boring but I wanted to get it out there. Some things you may not know about me. (1) I run my own business, and have for 6.5 years (2) I work from home and (3) I'm still working even with baby Oscar.

I get asked 2 things by people. (1) Why I don't talk about my business on this blog and (2) How do I juggle it all*. So I thought I'd answer them both during this perfect week.

Question: Why don't I talk about work on my blog?
Someone asked my why I don't promote my business more on this blog.  The simple answer is that the blog is about my home life - doing my hobby - decorating & renovations. I work very hard at maintaining a balance between work and home, even though I work from home. So maintaining a balance on our blog is a reflection of that. I love my business, but it's nice to have a place where I can blog (here) away from that part of my life. For those of you that don't know .... my store is here.

Question: How do I juggle work, home renos, baby etc...
Some people say this and it makes me worried that I come across as super busy, always doing something, never relaxing and not paying attention to Oscar. But I guess we are always doing something, but for us it's fun. Working is great fun for me because I'm able to stay creative. Blogging is great fun as it allows me to be a part of an awesome community and blog about what I love best - design, our home, and our life. I do it all because each thing makes me happy. And I do it all by setting specific times to do work & the fun extracurricular things. My main priority is giving Oscar love & attention, but Aubrey has three days off a week, and during those three days, Aubrey will have some one-on-one time with Oscar and I scoot down to my office and do work.
Oscar plays for a little bit as I do some things in my office
The rest of the time I'm with Oscar, playing, visiting with our good friend and going for walks with our babies to Starbucks. And then at night....The Laptop.  I can blog from bed, and catch up on reading other peoples blogs - making the time when I am in my office more productive. (I get the surfing the web done at night) And I feel less stressed when I am with Oscar because I know I have my dedicated time in my office and on my laptop at night . We didn't used to have a laptop, but realized a few months after his birth that it would be beneficial for me. And I've used it every night since. Best investment ever.

I know it's not a design post, but I felt that it was a great week, being my "Mommy Week" to talk about being a working Mom. And I'm blogging from bed right now, with Oscar sleeping beside me. :)

Stay tuned. A new giveaway for Mommy week is coming up.
