Most bloggers enjoy a good picture, we love to capture the beauty around us or freeze a special moment or view, but not many of us attempt to show portraits.
In painting it seems to be the same; you need a certain amount of courage and certainly technical skill to capture the essence of a person in a portait .
My friend Rachel Hannyngton works as a portrait artist, and takes commissions for single and group portraits. She seems to specialise in childrens portraits, but maybe that's because so many parents dream of having a painting of their child rather than a photo.
Based in Norfolk in the UK, she works in her studio at her beautiful 18th century farmhouse, either from photo or from sittings. What a great job! I love her group portaits, and their casual, friendly feel.
